Seattle surprised everyone including their head coach Rob Long who said with a sheepish grin following the game, 'We knew that we had a good team but we really smacked those guys in the mouth tonight'. Most of the smacking was being handed out by recent Seattle Mist roster addition #15 Lindsey Blaine who was a one-woman wrecking crew on defense running through San Diego's offensive line as if Casper the friendly ghost was blocking her. Blaine's pass rush made it impossible for San Diego quarterback #8 Rachel Carroccio to complete anything finishing with a whopping 10yds of passing.
Seattle had a ball-control offensive scheme that featured multiple players including standout Lindsey Blaine and #3 Katie Ryckman, although the passing game struggleD throughout the night. San Diego simply could not match Seattle's intensity in any of the three phases which led to Seattle's 14-0 halftime lead. The Mist defense which was ranked along the bottom of the pre-season LFL polLS came out with vengeance turning in two key goal-line stands with one coming seconds before halftime to preserve their lead.
The second half showed signs of life from San Diego scoring on a Carroccio quarterback sneak and the defense holding Seattle to limited yardage and only 6 points, but simply not enough as Seattle answered with another Blaine touchdown to finish oFf a demoralized San Diego team 20 - 6. The schedule does not get any easier for San Diego as they host No. 1 ranked Dallas Desire on Oct. 16th, fortunately it will be IN the friendly confines of the San Diego Sports Arena.
